Handling a workplace complaint of harassment or discrimination can be stressful even for the most experienced HR pro. Getting it wrong could cost your business big time. But by understanding the law, implementing best practices, avoiding common mistakes, and providing proper training and policies, you can mitigate your company’s risk.

Participants will refresh their knowledge of federal and state harassment and discrimination laws, learn best practices for investigations, understand common mistakes to avoid, and discover steps to take for ongoing mitigation.

As an Ohio employment lawyer turned HR consultant, I help small businesses reach new heights by creating people-centric policies, providing employee and management training, and assisting clients in mitigating risk by remaining compliant with ever-changing employment laws.
A summa cum laude graduate of Capital Law School, I served as editor-in-chief of the law review — while raising three children, from newborn to 5 years old. Before law school, I earned a B.A. in journalism from Indiana University, Bloomington, and spent a decade as an award-winning journalist. Writing remains a passion, and I am a published author of many articles and short stories.
A native of Eastern Kentucky, you’ll note a bit of a dialect reflecting the proud heritage of hard-scrabble hill people if we chat. But Ohio has been home for 25-plus years. I live in Westerville with my husband, Clayton, owner/chef of Can’t Believe It’s Vegan (yes, we’re vegan), and our shelter dog, Max. We’re parents to a blended family of 6 (yes…S-I-X) fantastic adult children.
